On May 9th, we did a one-hour “brown bag lunch” Breema presentation for students of the Osteopathic School at Touro University in Vallejo, CA.
There were many aspects of this event that were inspiring and affirming, and we are pleased to have been asked to come back in the Fall.
A series of events led to this opportunity. First, a Touro professor mentioned Breema to some of her students, and several came to a Tuesday night class at the Center. They were enthusiastic and encouraged their fellow students to look into Breema. Then in February, another Touro student came to a one-hour class at the Clinic tailored toward bodyworkers, where we did Self-Breema, a simple bodywork sequence, and spoke about the principles and how they could use them in their practice.
The student asked us if we wanted to come up to her school and do a presentation there. We readily agreed, and she put us in contact with her friend that organizes these events. They were particularly interested in a presentation on self-care and the practical aspects of Breema. We prepared a variety of Self-Breema in case there wasn’t much room or if we could only stand. Being flexible and prepared served us well. We shared specific experiences using the 9 principles while working with clients, studying, and in daily life, to help them see the relevancy to their own practice and lives.
What seems to have been key in terms of doing this kind of event:
- Specifically addressing and relating to their needs and interests without compromising any aspect of the teaching.
- No matter what size the group is, seeing that it is a valuable opportunity towards building and establishing positive relationships that can lead to other opportunities and possibilities of presenting Breema in other departments.
- Being prepared and flexible for any situation. (Self-Breema, body-centered meditation, and a seated bodywork sequence can be done almost anywhere.)
- Keeping the question alive, “How can I use this event to support raising my level of consciousness?”
