Laura Rawson, Alexandra Johnson, and Jamie Furstoss-Lam recently offered an afternoon workshop in Boulder, Colorado at the Solstice Center. They worked together to plan and promote this event. I asked Laura to write a bit about the workshop and what they did to let people know about it.
"We had 19 students at the 4-hour workshop in Boulder on Sunday, April 22. The atmosphere was strong and there were some beautifully expressed experiences when we did group experience exchange. I benefited a lot from hearing my co-instructors speak about their experience and understanding of Breema, and came away with renewed interest in working with some simple tasks on a daily basis.
Of the 19 students two students had moved to Colorado from the Bay Area where they'd
been to classes at the Breema Center; they were very excited to find
Breema in their new home area. Five had come to previous Breema
workshops in Colorado (of those, 2 had studied at the Center). All of
these seven were on the Breema Center mailing list and received cards,
emails, and phone calls from us. The other 12 were new students. Four
received our postcard through the local ABMP list that we sent to. Two
saw posters around town. One found us through the web, and one through Meetup.com. One came with a friend who loves Breema. And three were my
family - mother, brother, and sister.
I feel like the personal
contacts made to people already on our mailing list was important. After
we'd put the word out through email notice and postcard, the warm
contact of a phone call encouraged folks who've had a good past
experience with Breema to come back for more. We used a local postering
service to post around Boulder; this seemed like a worthwhile
investment, especially with Mary's beautiful design. And reaching out to
massage therapists through the ABMP was effective - several people came
from that mailing even though they didn't need the continuing education
credit.
We're now looking forward to the local classes in Denver and in Boulder and to coming together again in August to do a weekend workshop."
